Review

Tells you everything you need to know to build your own axe. The book assumes that you are a competent carpenter and have a reasonable knowledge of carpentry techniques, although some guidance is given in this area. (Tip from me – don’t attempt an electric guitar if you are not good at woodwork!!)

The book covers design considerations in detail, particularly how to set out drawings for your guitar. The vital area of fret spacing calculations is fully addressed.

The book concludes by taking you through the manufacture of three different guitars (two six-strings and a bass – this book is applicable to bass-making too) so gives you an insight into a wide range of techniques. Finishing (painting/lacquering/oiling) your guitar is explained and there is a section on wiring everything up.

I wish I had had this book before making my guitars!
